A limited designer needs an unlimited budget!
We have just finished with Symphony Showhouse XVI here in Wichita and for the first time in 20 years out team started the entire project with a budget, just like real life. A list of needs and a budget is the beginning of any design project and we decided a showhouse is no exception. Finding a way to cover the needs for a limited but reasonable amount of money is at the very heart of good design. There are designers known for throwing money at every obstacle and in a way it works, just not very effectively. It's like the recipe for a great hamburger, take one porterhouse steak, grind it up and fry it. Voila, a great hamburger, but a real waste of porterhouse. The oriental designer says that perfection is achieved, not when nothing more can be added, but when nothing more can be taken away. Same with money, what is the least amount of money needed to achieve the results we need to achieve? It's always about need- Need Design!
